VNL’s ResQMobil just wrapped up another successful showcase of its suite of disaster management products at the 3rd World Congress on Disaster Management. With 100 experts from 60 countries coming together at the event, we got a chance to interact and discuss critical disaster management solutions with representatives from the government, international aid agencies, scientific and technical agencies as well as various NGOs working in the field of disaster management.
The theme covered in the event was ‘Building Resilience to Disasters’ – an area ResQMobil products are particularly adept at handling.
For the uninitiated, ResQMobil, is a disaster response solution that aids emergency response by providing an independent communication network to first responders, supports search and rescue operations by providing mobile location of affected civilians, and integrates with different legacy radio networks to provide actionable information to authorities seeking a bigger picture.
The theme of the event – building resilience to disasters, continues to remain a challenge for first responders and public agencies. Network blackout is common during all natural and manmade disasters. In the immediate hours followed by a disaster event, respondents and civilians need a dedicated communication system to minimise impact and maximise chances to save lives and property.
The ability of any state/country’s aid agency to bring back basic infrastructure after a disaster hits is what defines resilience to disasters. Mobile connectivity being in the same bracket as food, water and shelter demands as much attention when restoring a disaster situation.
Our presentation on thematic session 13: Innovations on disaster management was aimed at sharing our intent, idea and workings of ResQMobil products designed solely to restore maintain communications in any kind of disaster scenario. The paper was well received with special attention lent to ResQMobil’s ‘search and locate’ feature.

Prominent interactions at the event were the meeting with BBK representative Thomas Neaumann from the Federal Government Disaster Management Authority and the non-profit Save the Children. Both are driven by the urgency of managing disasters with more proficiency than what the case is at present.
Since disaster management falls under the purview of state governments, state-run disaster agencies are particularly looking for solutions like ResQMobil. We had a brief but insightful session with a representative from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre. The fact that ResQMobil is fully integrated was appreciated since most disaster management solutions and tools are either piece-meal or don’t integrate with other devices as seamlessly. All visitors recognized that ResQMobil can solve the problem of post disaster communication which is the biggest challenge for disaster management authorities while trying to control the aftermath.
ResQMobil, a first-of-its-kind solution, has been designed keeping in mind the needs of disaster management agencies such as India’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), their state counterparts, and similar agencies across the world. It is an integrated and portable solution that aids emergency response by providing an independent communication network to first responders, supports search and rescue operations by providing mobile location of trapped, buried or missing victims.
